Nursery Cook

The Lighthouse Nursery Bromley Ltd is looking for an experienced friendly cook with a passion for preparing fresh meals using fresh ingredients and the ability to cook healthy food from scratch following our established menu. 

You will be responsible to The Nursery Manager

You should have a natural warm personality to fit in with our friendly family run children’s day nursery.

You should be up to date with environmental health guidelines and have awareness of allergies and allergens. 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Nursery Cook, with a Level 2/3 Food Safety and enhanced DBS
  2. To prepare and cook nutritionally balanced meals for children from 6 months to five years. 
  3. Daily running of the kitchen, compliance with legislative and safeguarding requirements
  4. Ability to Liaise with Environmental Health Officer, Health and Safety & Ofsted Inspectors
  5. Ensure all children’s dietary needs are met, high standards of hygiene, health and safety policies maintained.
  6. Maintain kitchen procedures/records in accordance with Environmental Health policies and procedures.
  7. Kitchen/equipment is kept clean, in accordance with daily cleaning schedule and food safety guidelines.
  8. Regular removal of waste materials to the designated waste area.
  9. Implement and maintain the company’s equal opportunities policy.
  10. Work as part of a team, Effective time management

 

Personnel

  1. To establish good professional relationships with colleagues and with the children
  2. Work with the Nursery Manager to implement and ensure that set budgets are not exceeded.
  3. Responsible for control, storage and rotation of kitchen stock.

 

Training and Development

  1. To contribute to the team effort of the nursery and to attend staff meetings and social events as and when required.
  2. Commitment to undertaking appropriate training and continued professional development.

Health & Safety

  • To ensure that the highest standards of health and safety apply to both children, staff, maintaining a safe and secure environment.
  • Ensure that hygiene and cleanliness within the kitchen is of the highest standard in accordance with Environmental Health requirements and legislation.
  • Pay due attention to the cooks dress code: Trousers, Catering Shirt and Apron, Hair tied back and covered. No nail varnish, no false nails, no rings with the exception of the wedding band…
  • Maintain an awareness of food allergies keeping an up-to-date log of all children in the nursery, working with the staff team during new admissions.
  • Update your knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues including COSHH regularly.
  • To be responsible for the hygiene and complete all Risk Assessment within the kitchen area.
  • Prevent cross contamination of food within the kitchen area.
  • Temperatures of high-risk food must be recorded at time of delivery and cooking. 
  • All food must be stored and served at the temperatures required by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Food Safety.

 

Conditions of Employment

  • The post holder is required to comply with all the nursery’s policies and procedures and to meet his/her responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and does require a criminal records check. Applicants must be prepared to disclose any convictions they may have and any orders which have been made against them.

Salary range: – Depending on age, qualification and experience

Starting from: 

£10.50 to £11.50 per hour subject to experience and qualifications

Monday to Friday 10.30am to 4.00pm
